Stem cell research was a major topic of the 2004 election. During the 2004 election between George Bush and John Kerry the two battle and debated on many issues but one of the biggest was if the government was going to permit stem cell research and if so would the government give any funds to help the cause. Kerry was the liberal who would easily allow for private agencies to research stem cells and also my even give government funds to help support advances in stem cell research. George Bush who is a conservative is more against stem cell research than for it. He would not and has not given money to help fund stem cell research. Although stem cell research is not getting government backed funding it has given hope for cures to paralysis and diseases. Stem cells can also be used as organ donors by growing limbs and appendages on animals and then transplanting them into or on humans. The advantage of this is that it is an exact donor and has less chance of rejection. Another conflict to the stem cells is that the cells for stems cells come from human embryos. This rises the question of when life starts and is an embryo alive or is it just another cell. The pro-life people feel that it is killing a life in the sake of science and they are against this. To conclude stem cell research is a big topic in the growing world and also in the United States. It has many advantages but it also rises my new conflicts.
